Upon entering the City, a timeless atmosphere envelops you. Here, the ancient customs that have influenced the city for centuries are meticulously upheld and honoured. The City’s livery companies, each representing a specific trade, evoke echoes of days gone by. From clothmakers to haberdashers, guilds play a significant role in preserving the City’s unique identity. Growing up in this setting provides a special opportunity to witness and partake in these esteemed traditions, fostering a profound attachment to the City’s rich legacy.

The Changing Facade of Modern London:

Whilst the City reveres its ancient traditions, it also serves as a living testament to the vitality of contemporary London. Towering skyscrapers punctuate the skyline, alongside gleaming glass structures harmonising with buildings centuries old, creating a setting where past meets present. Growing up in the City allows individuals to adapt to the fast-paced rhythm of modern life while remaining firmly rooted in the City’s historical essence. From bustling financial institutions to fashionable eateries and boutiques, the City seamlessly blends its history with the ever-evolving visage of London.

Quirks and Oddities:

To grow up in the City of London is to encounter a plethora of eccentricities that infuse charm and vibrancy into daily life. Uniquely adorned ceremonial figures, like the “Gog and Magog” – two colossal statues embodying the ancient protectors of the City – stand sentinel at the City’s Guildhall. Quaint traditions, such as the Lord Mayor’s Show, where the recently appointed Lord Mayor parades through the streets in a grand procession, fill the City’s agenda with lively pageantry. These idiosyncrasies not only entertain but also deepen residents’ ties to the City’s traditions, cultivating a sense of pride and belonging.

Growing up in the City means being part of a tight-knit network, where everyone is familiar with one another.
