Stephen Critchley
Master Court Mason
Stephen is a Master Court Mason with over 40 years of experience, having trained in the City of London with one of the last great companies. His named lineage of Masters traces back nearly a thousand years to 1080, with connections to Master Masons serving British and French royal families. The wealth of knowledge and expertise passed down through the generations has equipped Stephen with a deep understanding of traditional techniques and craftsmanship that are invaluable in his field.
Throughout his career, Stephen honed his skills initially as a banker Mason and then in various styles of sculpture . His dedication to continuous learning led him to seek out and learn from Masters in Italy and other parts of Europe, enabling him to master a diverse range of techniques and philosophies in architectural and sculptural stone and marble work.
As a Court Mason, Stephen’s work encompasses the craft, design, and art aspects of heritage architecture and sculpture. He has established an international reputation through his contributions to projects for European and Middle Eastern royalty, as well as his work in cities such as Rome, Venice, Paris, and London. Stephen’s commitment to preserving traditional skills and techniques while continuing to innovate in his craft highlights his dedication to the art of stonemasonry and sculpture.”
